This event is open to all businesses looking for business development opportunities, available as part of the HS2 supply chain. It will provide practical information on what is required of businesses to access the wide-ranging procurement opportunities that HS2 will bring to the East Midlands.
The session is brought to you in partnership with Leicestershire County Council and the Leicester and Leicestershire Business Gateway Growth Hub
Delivered by Robin Lapish, Supply Chain Manager, HS2 Ltd this session will provide delegates with a general update and overview, combined with the key upcoming tier 1 and 2 procurement opportunities.
We are also pleased to be joined by Matthew Munn, Head of Procurement at Balfour Beatty who will provide an insight in the requirements set for businesses in the supply chain as part of the Balfour Beatty Vinci Joint Venture.
It will highlight the supply chain criteria and approach to procurement that HS2 Ltd will be working to and which will be pushed down the supply chain in areas such as:
- Equality Diversity and Inclusion
- Environmental Sustainability
- Heath and Safety
- Building Information Modelling
- Skills, Employment and Education
- Cyber Essentials

The aim is to raise awareness of the opportunities available and highlight that these do not just apply to the engineering and construction sectors, but across a wide and diverse portfolio of sectors and sizes of business.
This event forms part of a series of practical sessions which will support businesses to not only be “Fit4HS2” but also for other public sector contracts.
Even if the opportunities for HS2 are not for you this is good business practice, to ensure your business is ready to apply for a range of other future opportunities. As the Government plans to bring forward infrastructure investment, promising to “build back better, build back greener, build back faster” – this is the time to ensure your business is ready to take advantage of these opportunities and be fit to supply.
What will HS2 be buying?
HS2 is one of the most demanding and exciting transport mega-projects in Europe, there will be thousands of opportunities within the HS2 supply chain. These will be:
- Created across many business sectors
- Requiring a wide range of capabilities
- Suitable for all suppliers of all sizes
- Generated over several years
They will need a wide range of works, good and services to deliver the HS2 programme and associated supporting corporate opportunities. Examples of some of the opportunities that sit outside the larger civil engineering, railway systems and rolling stock items are:
Landscaping, Tree Surgery, Wildlife Habitat Relocations, Woodland Relocation, Telecoms, Site Offices, Site Compound External Works – access ways, hardstanding, fencing, signage etc., Site Security – CCTV, security guards, patrols, Scaffolding, Traffic Management, Site Clearance, Ground Investigation, Topographical Surveys, Traffic Surveys, Drone Surveys, Labour and Staff, Plant Hire, Aggregates, Ready Mix Concrete,Ducts, Pipes, Brickwork and blockwork, Builders’ Merchants Materials, Occupational Health and Wellbeing, Pest Control, Specialist Photography.
