Burton-on-Trent Spin Gym's Charity Dreams Given Boost from BookWise

Spin Box Burton’s ambition to install a publicly-available defibrillator has been helped by a donation from neighbouring business, BookWise Solutions.

The healthcare scheduling experts, based in Faraday Court, contributed £500 towards an existing £1,000 that was raised by a raffle held by the spin and circuits gym.

With the cash, the defibrillator system has now been fixed onto an external wall on Spin Box Burton’s premises in Sovereign Business Park, for emergency use by itself and surrounding business units.

According to the Resuscitation Council (UK)* there are approximately 60,000 cardiac arrests annually in the UK. Resuscitation is attempted in only about half of these, something which BookWise Solutions and Spin Box Burton are hoping to improve by increasing accessibility to potentially life-saving equipment in the community.

Denise Williamson, managing director at BookWise Solutions said of the donation:

“As a long-running local business it’s important for us at BookWise to help out with local community efforts, but this cause also means a lot to me on a personal level too. I met Jo at a previous gym I used to attend and she’s a true figurehead for the area with a genuine desire to help others – this defibrillator is a perfect example of this in action and we’re very happy to be part of her efforts.

“At BookWise we operate within the national healthcare industry, so it’s great to be able to contribute towards ensuring the health of our local community too. We’re thrilled to support Jo and all at Spin Box in this fantastic scheme!”

Jo Caulton, owner and trainer at Spin Box, added:

“Our gym is based in a busy park and the footfall in the area is high, so I was amazed when I learned that there was no defibrillator closeby that was available for public use. Though purchasing one was essential, the high-end equipment can come at a cost and this led to our fundraising activities.

“Since we opened in 2017 we’ve become more than just a gym, and a real community hub for those who visit us. Everyone is welcome and we have customers of all ages and from all walks of life – it’s great to meet and get to know the people of Burton – including Denise at BookWise - as part of my daily role.

“Thanks to this spirit we did manage to raise a fantastic amount through a raffle and from other businesses too, and BookWise’s contribution has been really helpful in ensuring we met our targets so the equipment could be purchased much faster. We’re thankful for the support Denise and the team have shown.

“It’s great to welcome everyone in our community back now that we’re open and running classes outdoors again - safe in the knowledge that potentially life-saving equipment is accessible if needed.”
