RDS Global's £1M Sanitiser Technology Cleans Up at East Midlands Chamber

A hand sanitiser station featuring £1M innovative software is helping to keep staff and visitors safe at the region’s leading business representation organisation.
The Black Box Edge™, developed by Derby-based IT support firm RDS Global, is incorporated into the facility, which has been installed in the reception at East Midlands Chamber’s head office in Chesterfield.
The forward-thinking technology not only sanitises, it identifies who has used the cleanser, controls entry to a business premise and even checks people’s temperature.
The Chamber installed the station ahead of its staff’s planned rotated return to work on August 17 after lockdown restrictions were eased.
It is the latest outlet to take up the equipment, following a string of pubs, cafes, hotels and museums, which have given positive feedback in the fight to ensure people are kept safe and businesses can re-open in the wake of Coronavirus.
Paul Duley, RDS’ software and products development director, heads up the team which devised the Black Box™ from visualisation to fruition.
He said: “The beauty of this is it’s wireless technology that we use for reporting its usage and it works on a mobile data network to communicate back to the Cloud for reporting.
“We’re delighted to be able to reduce people’s concerns about staying safe.”
The station has been installed on a trial basis, and if successful, it will be rolled out for use in the Chamber’s other offices across Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire and Leicestershire.
Adam Coyne, facilities coordinator at the Chamber, said: “It’s really simple to use, and instills confidence in people as they enter the premises, that we have implemented this technology to help keep them safe.”
It is the latest addition of RDS Global solutions at East Midlands Chamber premises, cementing the firm’s ongoing relationship with the organisation.
Adam added: “We have built a good relationship with RDS - we have worked with them on quite a few things now and it’s great that we can support one of our membership organisations.
“We had an RDS door access system installed two months ago, and a fingerprint system prior to that. We have also got touchless key cards from RDS.”
Lucy Robinson, the Chamber’s director of resources, said: “It’s fantastic that we are able to support a membership organisation and that we are able to test out a great piece of kit and help returning to work for businesses across the UK.
“Hopefully we can utilise it across the Chamber sites in the return to the office.”
The sanitiser and dispenser for the BlackBox Edge™ were provided by eco-friendly company, Zero, which has a head office in Chesterfield.
Chris Cuckson, director of the firm, said RDS took Zero’s product, which contains 70 per cent alcohol and a 100 per cent recyclable refill, on board after trialling others and added: “RDS liked our products and furthermore, liked our values and ethos. To be linked with RDS and the work they are doing is great.”
