Derbyshire IT experts Axess Systems boost their team with new apprentice Josh Young

A DERBYSHIRE IT firm has recruited a new apprentice as it boosts its sales support team.

Eighteen-year-old Josh Young has joined Axess Systems, which is based on the Denby Hall Business Park, as an internal account manager. The role will see Josh dealing with customers, quoting for jobs, working between account managers, data collecting and dealing with pre-sale queries.

Axess Systems is one of the country’s leading IT infrastructure providers and specialises in supplying and maintaining Microsoft Applications and Citrix; a digital workspace technology which allows staff to work from anywhere, on any device and on any network.

They work with various organisations across the UK, including health and housing trusts, local government, manufacturers and finance companies.

Josh, from Ashbourne, said: “I have really enjoyed my first few weeks at Axess Systems and I’m looking forward to progressing here. Axess Systems are a very forward-thinking business and the apprentices who they have employed in the past have gone on to bigger and better things.”

Until October, Josh was studying A-Levels at Lady Manners School, in Bakewell. But after deciding that this wasn’t the right career path for him, he began looking for a suitable apprenticeship.

“Finding the right apprenticeship wasn’t quite so straightforward,” he said, “it took a bit of time to find the right one for me but I’m very happy with my role at Axess Systems.

“I previously worked in a bar – 20/10 cocktail bar in Matlock – and one of my strengths was dealing with customers. That’s what my main task at Axess will be; building relationships and dealing directly with customers.”

Will Lingard, director at Axess Systems, said: “We are delighted with the appointment of Josh to our team.

“His acquisition is a major boost for the business at a time when, due to the Coronavirus pandemic and recession which we find ourselves in, organisations are making mass redundancies.

“Over the past couple of months, we have created brand-new positions for two key members of staff – Kris Haynes and John Middleton – and, as well as taking on Josh, we have also welcomed Mike Smith, an experienced senior consultant with an automotive background.

“Mike has a broad skill set and his previous roles include head of IT at SAIC. His networking skills will be perfect for Axess Systems to help expand our wider network reach.”

Founded by managing director Ed Morton 20 years ago, the award-winning Axess Systems employs 20 people at its head office in Denby and its regional office in Southampton.

It is one of only 11 UK firms to have achieved the coveted Gold Citrix Solution Advisor level with specialism in virtualisation and has recently become one of only three businesses in the country enrolled on to the Citrix Customer Success Management programme.
