Nottingham lockdown moments captured in new gallery at intu Victoria Centre

intu Victoria Centre has unveiled a new Lockdown Gallery featuring a selection of 22 images captured by the local community during lockdown.

Located on the lower mall next to HMV, the new gallery provides a snapshot into what life in the city was like just a few months ago as the nation adjusted to the strict social distancing measures imposed by the Government in the wake of COVID-19.

It follows a callout from the centre encouraging local budding photographers to submit their best shots from the past few months, with images captured chronicling socially distanced meet-ups, communities coming together to offer support, stunning nature shots and eerily deserted streets and shop aisles.

Commenting on the gallery’s launch, Nigel Wheatley, centre director at intu Victoria Centre, said:

“It was great to see so many fantastic entries and narrowing it down certainly was no mean feat. Now that some measures are starting to be lifted and the centre is now open as usual, it’s easy to forget just how different life was a few months ago. These pictures serve as a reminder of a very challenging time – one which will certainly go down in history.

“We hope the gallery helps to spread a little positivity while also giving visitors the opportunity to reflect on the beauty within Nottingham as well as the kindness, bravery, hope and community spirit of so many of the city’s residents.”

The Lockdown Gallery is open from 11 August in line with the centre’s opening times and is free.
