Derby business Blucomms celebrates 10 years in business

THIS year has been challenging for most businesses but Marc Allen, owner of Pride Park-based Blucomms was determined to make 2020 – his company’s 10th year in business – a success.

And whilst it has, at times, been – in his own words, ‘interesting’; running a business, homeschooling his two young children and supporting his wife, Laura, a keyworker for the NHS during a global pandemic, the 38 year-old wouldn’t have it any other way.

“I started my business from home and, 10 years later, I’m marking a decade of Blucomms at my Derbyshire home,” said Marc, whose company is an independent mobile phone and cloud-based telephony supplier.

“Perhaps the most challenging part of 2020 has been juggling the business with homeschooling my two boys Will (12) and Jacob (6). My wife, Laura, has been working tirelessly for the NHS during the pandemic and so I’ve had to strike a balance between the business and my personal life.

“It’s been interesting but Blucomms has held its own in a difficult market at a rather testing time.”

To mark their 10th anniversary, Blucomms gave their website a new look and have invested more time in their social media platforms.

Their client base, which includes Eden Tyres Sales (ETS), Total Integrated Solutions (TIS), Wentworth Alexander insurance brokers and Trent Bridge; the home of Nottinghamshire County Cricket Club, has grown steadily during 2020 and Marc is seeing a bigger increase in sales as businesses start to welcome back furloughed workers.

“Staying in touch with employees during the past few months has been key for businesses,” added Marc, whose business uses O2, Vodafone, plan.com and EE as their main providers.

“With the possibility of a second wave of the Coronavirus – or more local lockdowns, similar to what we’ve seen in Manchester and Bradford, the communication industry has never been in such demand.

“At Blucomms, our ethos has been to always strive to find the best deal for our customers and that has what has made us stand out from the crown over the last 10 years.

“Yes, 2020 has been tough and we have seen some businesses go under, but it has been a time to shine for the smaller, independent ones and we’re looking forward to what 2021 brings.”
