Orrsum Races to NHS Fundraising Finish Line

Nottingham-based Sock Company hits £20,000 NHS Fundraising Target in Time for NHS 72nd Anniversary

Orrsum, a sock specialist based in Wilford, Nottingham has hit their £20,000 NHS fundraising target by designing and selling rainbow-themed socks. In just five weeks the company has sold 6,000 pairs of socks to raise money for NHS Charities Together in time for its 72nd anniversary, on Sunday.

The Orr family from West Bridgford decided to raise money for the NHS by designing and selling rainbow socks.  The company owners’ daughter, Florence Orr, 11 created her own rainbow design after being inspired by the rainbows on the houses around Nottingham.

Florence Orr said “I wanted to do something positive during lockdown. A lot of people were really sad and I wanted to make them happy.  I saw how hard doctors and nurses were working and I asked my parents if we could make some cheerful socks with rainbows on, so we could sell them and raise money for the lovely people who work in the NHS”.

Parents and Orrsum sock owners; William and Victoria Orr agreed immediately.  Within a few weeks, the socks had arrived in Nottingham and an e-commerce website has been developed.

Victoria Orr, managing director at Orrsum said “It seemed such an obvious idea once Florence mentioned it and we set to work the next day.  We always wanted to raise the target of £20,000 in time for the 72nd anniversary of the NHS, but it felt a big challenge, we only started selling at the beginning of June. However, the support we have received has been overwhelming and I’m thrilled we’ve hit the target for the anniversary on Sunday.”

The socks have quickly gained celebrity status with Ben Shepherd, Lisa Snowden, Chris Brassington and Sam Pinkham donning the rainbow socks on

social media.
