Coronavirus outbreak: Chesterfield Borough Council services update – 23 June

 As we move into the recovery phase of our response to the Coronavirus (Covid-19) outbreak Chesterfield Borough Council will continue to assess and respond to new requirements and will modify service provision in line with the latest Government guidance. Our priority is to ensure that the locations and workplaces from which we deliver our services are as safe as possible for our communities and staff.


Reopening the Customer Service Centre


Chesterfield Borough Council is pleased to confirm that the Customer Service Centre in New Square has re-opened following several changes to its operations to ensure customer and staff safety during the coronavirus pandemic.


The Customer Services Centre is currently open Monday to Friday between 9am and 2pm, except Wednesdays when it is open from 10am to 2pm. Safety screens and signage have been installed within the building to help keep our customers and council staff  safe, and to serve as a reminder of the need for customers to maintain safe social distancing. 


To ensure compliance with the Government’s social distancing guidelines, there will be less enquiry desks and payment kiosks than would normally be available and customers will not be able to use public computers and public telephones. 


Customers are being asked to queue outside the building to manage occupancy levels within the Customer Services Centre. A member of the Customer Services team will direct customers to the appropriate enquiry desk within the Centre, when it is their turn to be served. Customers are encouraged to use the hand sanitiser provided when entering the building.


Councillor Jean Innes, cabinet member for business transformation and customers, said: “We would encourage our customers to continue to email the council, call us or use our new online webchat function, which can be accessed through our website.


“However, we understand that some of our customers will always prefer to speak to our advisors face to face and we hope the timely reopening of the council’s Customer Service Centre will ensure that these customers get the support that they need.”
