FOOD FOR THOUGHT: LEICESTER HOMEBUILDER SUPPORTS LOCAL FOODBANK

Barratt Homes North Midlands has supported Leicester South Foodbank, part of the Trussell Trust, with a donation of groceries to assist their work during a challenging time.

Based at The Kings Centre in Wigston, close to the homebuilder’s Wigston Meadows development, the foodbank has 10 distribution centres across Leicestershire and is still striving to support those in need during the Covid-19 crisis.

Items donated by Barratt Homes included tinned meat, tinned fruit and vegetables, tea bags, squash, porridge, cereal, pudding sachets, pasta sauce and small bottles of washing-up liquid.

Whilst observing the Government’s safeguarding measures, Leicester South Foodbank has reduced its operational hours and closed some of its distribution centres, but is making safe deliveries of nutritional food parcels to the city’s most vulnerable people.

Samantha Stapley, Chief Operating Officer at the Trussell Trust, said: “As the coronavirus outbreak develops, more people are likely to need a foodbank’s help. Our teams are working tirelessly to ensure that foodbanks are able to remain open and have the necessary stocks to respond to this crisis. The support of Barratt Homes means foodbanks will be able to remain agile to respond to the fast-changing situation and continue to provide the lifeline of emergency food and additional support for people in crisis.”

Now is as crucial a time as any to help those living in poverty and Barratt Homes’ contribution towards Leicester South Foodbank will help its volunteers continue to make a difference for many people in Leicestershire.

The donation of food items was delivered directly to The Kings Centre in Wigston, where the foodbank is still able to safely accept donations from members of the public.

Chris Southgate, Managing Director at Barratt Homes North Midlands, said: “We’re delighted to support Leicester South Foodbank at a time where togetherness and community spirit is most significant.

“The representatives of the Trussell Trust do an outstanding job in providing emergency supplies to those in need, and we hope our donation will support their admirable work during these testing times.”

Leicester South Foodbank is part of a nationwide network of foodbanks, supported by The Trussell Trust, working to combat poverty and hunger across the UK.
