Derby Recruitment Firm Steps in to Help Covid-19 Jobless

A Derby based recruitment consultancy has been taking on 30 new candidates per week during the pandemic - an increase of 20 percent from pre-lockdown.

Sky Recruitment Solutions has adapted its working practices during the Coronavirus crisis - not only to ensure it can continue running as a business, but also to make sure other companies can meet their own requirements.

The announcement comes as the number of people claiming unemployment benefits increased by the most in April since records began to reach almost 2.1 million, according to Office for National Statistics figures.

Sky Recruitment Solutions, based on The Strand in Derby and on Wellington Street, Ripley, has seen an increase in recruitment applications as people fall foul of redundancies and hardship in lockdown.

Managing director David Torrington said: “It’s been tough times for everyone since lockdown began in March.

“As people seek other alternative employment, we have adapted the way we work to ensure we are in the prime position to help them.

“Likewise, several new businesses have signed up with us during lockdown, as they seek help to fulfil their recruitment needs.”

Sky Recruitment Solutions has kept 50 percent of its own workforce rather than furloughing the employees, although the rest are likely to be returning this month to optimise the opportunities the business has created, and key staff have been ensuring key clients can continue to operate.

New industrial clients have been given a guarantee that Sky Recruitment Solutions can fulfil their temporary staffing requirements within 24 hours, or get the staff free of charge.

It has also adapted its registration process during lockdown to include online registrations, with a 100 percent success rate with temporary candidates placed on assignment.

Derby-based Pennine Healthcare heads up one of the companies which has signed up with Sky Recruitment Solutions in the lockdown.

Its chief executive officer, Luke Fryer, said: “Pennine Healthcare is going through a period of unprecedented growth.

“We are developing our online presence to bring professional healthcare products direct to the consumer. We chose Sky Recruitment Solutions due to their knowledge in this sector and the local market.”
