Charity Teams Up With Food Retailers To Make Sure Nobody Goes Hungry

A Derby-based charity has linked up with independent food retailers to make sure disabled, vulnerable and elderly people don't go hungry during the Covid crisis lockdown.

Disability Direct said that the outlets are providing a lifeline to scores of its clients.

Its chief executive Amo Raju said:

"Independent businesses and organisations were already offering excellent services and now they have gone the extra mile in working with us to make life as easy as possible for vulnerable people."

Six food retailers and a community organisation have joined forces with the charity which can take orders and, in some cases, payment.

These include the Co-op from which shoppers can make an order from 80 products and have shopping delivered the next day. 

Pak Foods and Sharif & Sons are delivering free food parcels containing the essentials with donations welcomed.

Praxis Probiotics delivers vegan, gluten-free freshly-cooked meals once a week. while Terry’s Butchers delivers raw meats and pies and M Najib & Sons Meat Centre delivers Halal meats.
