Much-loved Derby Restaurant Delivers Hot Meals To Nurses And Key Workers At Local Charity

A POPULAR Derby restaurant will be delivering free hot meals to key workers at a local hospice as they continue to provide an invaluable service during the coronavirus pandemic.

COSMO Derby temporarily closed its doors to customers last month but the much-loved restaurant, in London Road, will be delivering 60 meals every week to staff at Treetops Hospice, in Risley.

Treetops Hospice Care provides nursing care and emotional support to adults with life-limiting conditions in Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire. The charity supports people with illnesses such as cancer, neurological conditions and heart and respiratory disease, plus their families.

Whilst members of the public have been told to stay at home - and Treetops have been forced to close their Wellbeing Space – 40 members of the ‘Hospice at Home’ team, which includes nurses and healthcare assistants, have been travelling miles across South Derbyshire and South Nottinghamshire to provide care in patient’s own homes during the day and overnight.

COSMO spokesperson Kan Koo said:

“Treetops Hospice Care is a magnificent charity which does some incredible work.

“Their care team are working around the clock to make sure that those in need continue to receive support at this difficult time. This is our way of saying ‘thank you’ for the work which Treetops Hospice continues to do.”

Julie Heath, Treetops chief executive said:

“We want to say a huge thank you to everyone at COSMO Derby for this incredibly kind offer. It was so, so lovely to receive the meals!

“Our staff are working tirelessly to ensure we can continue to support the most vulnerable patients and their families in the local communities and this is such a boost to morale. It means they can take a delicious meal home to enjoy at the end of the day. We look forward to a long and positive relationship in the future.”

COSMO will deliver to Treetops twice a week; every Tuesday and Thursday, delivering 30 meals on each occasion.

The family restaurant, which serves more than 150 dishes from around the world, will deliver a variety of tasty oriental and Indian dishes.

Mr Koo added:

“COSMO Derby is at the heart of the community and we have supported several charities over the years, including When You Wish Upon A Star and Derby County Community Trust.

“Our Kids Eat for £1 initiative, where all money raised goes to our chosen charity, will relaunch when our restaurant opens again, and we hope that the staff at Treetops enjoy eating the meals, which have been lovingly cooked by head chef Wee Goh.”
