Speedel & Local Business Coronavirus Response

Speedel & Local Business Coronavirus Response

Leicestershire based courier, Speedel, has donated and delivered nearly 200 litres of hand moisturiser to the University of Leicestershire NHS Trust's hospitals as the latest gesture in its ongoing COVID19 support initiatives.

The moisturiser has been distributed across the various departments by the Leicester Hospitals Charity ensuring NHS staff on the COVID-19 frontline can take care of their hands in between frequent handwashing. The same day courier also included a number of drink bottles and bags in the delivery to allow staff to stay hydrated and provide a handy carry case to store uniforms and other belongings after a long shift.

Speedel's COVID19 Partner Programme was set up one month ago and has helped a number of local charities and businesses deliver urgent and essential items to those most in need across the Leicestershire region. The programme provides free delivery services to charities in the area and has been widely used in its first few weeks of operation.

In early April, Speedel delivered toiletry items to staff at the three Leicester hospitals donated by the Co-Op and Bargain Basket, and coordinated by the COVID 19 Mutual Aid Group. In addition, Speedel delivered items donated by the C S Ellis Group to Age UK Leicestershire and Rutland. Just a week ago, Age UK returned the favour by donating surplus Quorn food items to St Matthews Big Local Charity. Leicestershire Cares, another community organisation, also worked with Speedel to deliver food packages donated by Samworth Food & Beverages to the Zinthiya Trust and E2 Community Hub.

The community work prompted Speedel's Salim Sidat to be nominated for a #TogetherWeCare award, organised by Leicestershire Cares. Raheema Caratella, who nominated Salim said:

"Salim should be recognised as one of the unsung heroes who helped to distribute to three food banks yesterday on behalf of one of our members Samworth Brothers and Walkers Deli and Sausage. Salim has helped the people in our society that need it the most at this challenging time."

Speaking about what has been a busy time for the team, Shiraz Sidat, Operations Manager at Speedel said:

"We are privileged to have been in a position to support the Leicestershire Hospitals along with a number of local charities. We would urge businesses and charities right across our region to get in touch if they are supporting the most vulnerable in our community. This kind of crisis requires a coordinated approach and we are committed to providing a service that helps deliver to those needing assistance most."

Speedel has been added to the COVID19 Crown Commercial Service catalogue of suppliers, designed to allow those in the public sector to find approved businesses who can support them during the coronavirus crisis. In addition to the free partner programme, Speedel's Driver Cover Support helps local businesses who may be experiencing high levels of demand or staff absence.
