Dains Looks To The Future With Continued Staff Recruitment

Dains Accountants continue to strengthen across the business and are looking to the future, despite the uncertain economic landscape as a result of COVID-19.

Tax specialist Terri Bruce has joined Dains as a Tax Director Indirect Tax while Mark Gurney has been promoted internally to Associate Director for Audit.

Ten other employees have also been promoted to more senior positions in Dains’ audit teams from the start of April and new starters are being recruited for the Commercial Services, Audit, Payroll and Tax teams.

Terri, whose role will focus on SME and not for profit entities, has a wealth of experience in VAT spanning almost 30 years.

She has a strong track record in advising owner-managed businesses and not for profit entities on issues such as VAT mitigation and simplification, cash flow management, land and property transactions and dispute resolution.

Terri started her career in VAT with Customs and Excise before moving on to become a VAT consultant within the accountancy profession and has worked for three of the UK’s Big Four accountancy firms.

Meanwhile, Mark Gurney is now an Associate Director for Audit after he first joined the business as an audit trainee over 17 years ago.

Mark works with a wide range of businesses within the audit profession across many sectors including owner managed businesses, academies, charities, not-for-profit organisations and professional services practices.

Staff in the Birmingham and Stoke-on-Trent Dains audit teams are also celebrating after being promoted to more senior roles this month.

Graduate programme

Many of these employees joined Dains on the firm’s graduate programme which gives trainees the opportunity to enjoy a rewarding career, build lasting relationships with clients and aspire to become the business leaders of tomorrow.

In the Birmingham audit team, Akshay Patel. Amy Dobson, Jenny Sam, Lucy Whitehouse and Nick Garner are now all Audit Semi Seniors, Rob Jones has been promoted to Supervisor, while Josh Hawthorn and Shiva Peters have progressed to Assistant Manager positions.

In Stoke, Will Owusu has been promoted to a Semi Senior role while Amy Ellis has become an Audit Senior.

Richard McNeilly, Dains Managing Partner, said:

“We are delighted to welcome Terri to Dains and her experience of VAT will be invaluable to our business going forward.

“We would like to congratulate Mark who has been an integral part of our audit service at Dains for over 17 years and this new challenge highlights the progress he has made since first joining us.

“It’s also extremely pleasing to see the next generation of our employees going from strength-to-strength as they develop their knowledge, skills and experience and they have been rewarded for their efforts.”

Richard added:

“Businesses are facing extremely tough times at the moment and we will continue to support all our clients through this difficult period.

“At Dains we never stand still and are always looking to progress and take the business to the next level.

“We have just ended our most successful year in our 94-year history and recognise that our greatest asset is our people and new staff additions and promotions within the business reflect that.”
