Local manufacturing company appoints new MD

Nottinghamshire-based manufacturer Interflex appointed a new managing director in March to help grow the business and increase turnover.

Automotive parts manufacturer Interflex 2000 is based in Langar. The new MD is Jim Griffin, who has over 30 years’ experience in the automotive industry and is former CEO of Warwickshire-based manufacturer the Autins Group.

Jim became MD after being appointed to lead business development in December 2019. His aim as MD is to develop and implement a range of business processes that will enable the company to fulfil projected targets for growth. This includes diversification of the business into new markets as well as the development of new products.

Interflex 2000 currently supply a range of NVH and sealing solutions for automotive vehicles including door seals, interior trim, under carpet and boot seals. They also coat and cut materials such as the fabric used for arm rests to ensure durability and comfort.

Set up in 2003, Interflex 2000 works mainly with tier 1 automotive suppliers. Previous MD and co-founder MD Peter Ryder is delighted with Jim’s appointment saying:

“Strong, experienced leadership is particularly important during these difficult times. Jim’s knowledge, expertise and contacts within the automotive manufacturing industry, and particularly in the acoustic and thermal insulation and NVH sector is already paying significant dividends.”

The company is aiming to increase its turnover over the next 12 months, with the target of a 27% rise by the end of 2022. Jim is excited by the opportunities that his new role offers saying:

“Despite the challenges posed by Covid-19, we already have an exciting and ambitious business development plan in place for 2020 and beyond.”

Jim left the Autins Group in 2017 due to ill health. Under his leadership, the company experienced rapid growth, setting up premises in Germany and Sweden as well sites in the UK for manufacturing and R&D. As CEO, Jim also oversaw the company’s successful flotation on the stock market.

“I’m delighted to be back in the industry after a period of recuperation and I’m raring to go,” comments Jim. “Interflex 2000 has such great potential for expansion. We have already secured some lucrative contracts and are in negotiations for some exciting new projects. There are also plans to invest in new equipment to expand capacity and efficiency as well as entering new markets - so, watch this space!”

During his career, Jim has been shortlisted for the Guardian Small Business Leader of the Year award as well as winning the EEF Manufacturing Champion for the Midlands award in 2016. Previous roles include presidency of the Rugby Chamber of Commerce and Vice Chair of the West Midlands branch of the EEF. He was also awarded a Visiting Industrial Fellowship by Aston Business School in recognition of his significant contribution in the area of business growth and entrepreneurship.
