Russell Scanlan Selects Macmillan Cancer Support as Charity of the Year

Nottingham-based independent insurance broker, Russell Scanlan, has announced its Charity of the Year for 2020 is Macmillan Cancer Support, the UK’s leading cancer support organisation.
The team will focus its considerable fundraising efforts for the year ahead on the charity, which provides information and support, and campaigns on a wide range of issues for people affected by cancer.
Russell Scanlan’s Charity Committee made up of team members with a passion for charity work, will spearhead a variety of fundraising initiatives, including an annual leave raffle, tuck shops and a Great British Bake Off-style baking challenge. The company is already planning two big fundraising challenges, the first of which will see eight members of the team take on a 26-mile hike across the Peak District in the Summer.
The company’s annual Charity Quiz is a major fixture in its fundraising calendar. This highly competitive event usually attracts around 20 teams and this year takes place at Trent Bridge Cricket Ground on Friday 9th October. The company is calling on businesses in the East Midlands to register their teams for the popular event, which is back for the eighth year in a row and includes a bottle tombola and pie and chip supper.

“Raising money for good causes is something we care very much about at Russell Scanlan. This year, we chose Macmillan Cancer Support as it is a charity which is very close to our hearts. Many of us have been affected by the disease in some way, either first-hand or through a loved one, and then last year a senior member of our team was diagnosed with cancer. We all decided that Macmillan Cancer Support would be a very important charity for us to fundraise for this year and the whole team is committed to raising as much money as possible for this worthwhile cause.
“It costs £29 for a Macmillan nurse for an hour, helping people living with cancer and their families receive essential medical, practical and emotional support. If we reach and exceed our target of £5000, we’ll be able to fund many hours of these vital nurses.”

“We are delighted that Russell Scanlan has chosen Macmillan Cancer Support as its Charity of the Year. In Nottingham alone, more than 4,000 people are diagnosed with cancer every year, but Macmillan is there to support people, helping them to live as full a life as possible.
“The money Russell Scanlan raise will help fund Macmillan nurses, could pay for a Macmillan Grant that helps a person living with cancer heat their home when they really need to, or could support Cancer Information Nurse Specialists to run the Macmillan Support Line phone service providing a wide range of clinical information and help with medical jargon.”
Russell Scanlan has been committed to supporting local organisations and charities over its 139-year history in Nottingham and has recently raised funds for Alzheimer’s Society, Forget-Me-Notts, My Sight Notts, The Nottingham Stroke Club and Linden Lodge Neurological Rehabilitation Unit.
