EXCITEMENT BUILDING OVER MICKLEOVER DEVELOPMENT

EXCITEMENT BUILDING OVER MICKLEOVER DEVELOPMENT

Builders will start work at the end of the month to rejuvenate a vandal-hit former petrol station site in Mickleover.

Bespoke Inns has already announced that it is to open a restaurant in the scheme on the corner of Limes Avenue and Uttoxeter Road after a link-up with Salloway Property Consultants, Matthew Montague Architects and developer IJA Commercial.

A planning application is expected imminently for a health and fitness gym in another part of the development and a national cafe chain is one of a number of others who have also shown keen interest in the site which has been derelict for a decade.

The news has been welcomed by Mickleover residents - many of whom have previously complained about vandalism at the property.

The site has been the subject of much debate and some councillors had said that it should be compulsorily purchased because it was an eyesore.

Now it is hoped the development will create a village focal point.

Stephen Salloway, managing director of Salloway Property Consultants, said:

“We are delighted to have resolved the future of this site.

“We have maintained all along that it would be developed as soon as we had appropriate occupiers who saw its potential and were happy to sign up.

“Matthew Montague has created a contemporary design which will be a perfect fit for the new restaurant and gym and be an iconic addition to Mickleover’s offer, bringing dozens of new jobs too. We are hopeful of concluding discussions on the remaining two units shortly and then the scheme will be fully pre-let.

“Building work should be completed in the autumn with the units open shortly thereafter so there will certainly be even more of a buzz around Mickleover at Christmas.”
