Idlewells Shopping Centre shortlisted for the Property Awards 2020

Sutton-in-Ashfield-based shopping centre Idlewells has been named as a finalist in the new-for-2020 Social Impact category at this year’s Property Awards.

The annual ceremony is hosted by Property Week - a leading news magazine focusing on the commercial and residential property industry. 2020 marks the 25th year of the awards which aim to celebrate excellence within commercial properties across the country.

This year’s glittering event will take place at Grosvenor House in London on Tuesday 21st April with the landmark year marked by a special Silver Jubilee category. The night will also celebrate a further 21 categories including Deal of the Year, the Wellbeing Award, Young Personality of the Year and new-for-2020 - the Social Impact Award.

Idlewells has been nominated within the Social Impact category under a submission by its management company, Ashdown Phillips.

The team at Idlewells has focused on social impact and engagement over the last 12 months and the team is delighted to be shortlisted in recognition of its efforts - as Centre Manager Chloe O’Donnell goes on to explain.

“Our submission was focused around our ‘One Great Day’ fundraiser for Great Ormond Street Hospital and our work with Alan Hupton - a local resident who has been fundraising in the town for 48 years and deserving winner of last year’s East Midlands Pride of Britain award,” says Chloe.

“Last summer our staff organised a host of activities around the theme of a summer fete, with all donations going straight to Great Ormond Street as part of a national fundraising inititiative for children called ‘One Great Day’. The activities ranged from face painting to tombolas and much more - the event really brought the local community together.”

“We were lucky to have the support of Alan Hupton for our ‘One Great Day’ campaign - a well known figure in Sutton-in-Ashfield and widely known as a ‘super-fundraiser.”

Since his mobility and health began to deteriorate, Alan has raised an estimated £225,000 on behalf of local charities. Idlewells regularly hosts Alan in the centre to assist with his selfless efforts with staff helping him cash up and retailers getting behind his remarkable work.

In 2019, Alan was recognised by the Idlewells team and a handful of retailers at a special presentation ceremony. He was also crowned as the winner of the East Midlands’ Pride of Britain award.

For Chloe, being shortlisted for this year’s Property Awards is testament to the team’s collective efforts to make a difference on both a local and national level.

“Supporting and changing communities is a core part of our ethos at Idlewells and this carries across all of the properties owned by Ashdown Phillips,”

“Our team, its partners and retailers really buy into our community engagement initiatives and support our fundraising efforts one hundred percent. I’m thrilled for everyone involved with the centre to see our name in the final and we have everything crossed for the ceremony on the 21st April!”
