The future is bright for Northamptonshire mental health group thatnks to housebuilder's donation

Barratt Homes Northampton has sponsored a local Mental Health group in Brackley to help support them in their efforts to build a community for those suffering from mental health issues.

The group holds bi-monthly meetups at Egerton Hall, which is located on the housebuilder’s recently sold out development, The Brackens.

Mental Health Friends encourages those struggling with their mental health to get together, support each other, make new friends, chat, socialise and have fun. They offer ongoing peer support groups, activities, talking therapies and complementary therapies such as yoga, mindfulness and aromatherapy.

Claire Readman, Founder of Mental Health Friends, said:

“I founded the Mental Health Friends Facebook group in February 2019 to offer support and friendship for those struggling with mental health.

“We had a lot of people join the group so along with my friend, Emma Hall, I launched the physical group on World Mental Health Day (10th October) and started to offer peer support group meetings in partnership with Rethink Mental Illness.”

Rethink Mental Illness aims to improve the lives of people severely affected by mental illness through their network of local groups and services, making sure that everyone affected has a good quality of life.

Claire continued:

“Mental Health Friends is very much needed, as approximately one in four people in the UK will experience a mental health problem each year.

“There can be long waiting lists for counselling which means that people can become isolated and struggle alone. Our aim is to prevent an individual from reaching crisis through connecting with others. We also offer support for carers, family members and everyone around those with mental health struggles to help and support them too.

“We want to make our sessions as accessible as possible and offer to meet people outside beforehand for a chat or do whatever we can to support people and make them feel comfortable. The sessions are open to anyone and even those that do not wish to take part in any of the activities can still join us for tea and cake.

“I would like to say a huge, huge thank you to Barratt Homes for their very generous donation, it is so very much appreciated and will allow us to continue to provide help and support to our members for the next year at Egerton Hall.”

Andrew Swindell, Managing Director at Barratt Homes Northampton, said:

“It’s brilliant to be supporting a cause that is directly helping people in the local community.

“We are committed to creating a positive legacy. We want to be known not just for the quality of the homes and developments we build, but also for our commitment to the local community through supporting local organisations such as Mental Health Friends.”
