Derby co-working space offers free support to businesses affected by Storm Dennis

Businesses which have been affected by Storm Dennis are being given a helping hand from CUBO, the co-working space is giving free working space to those impacted by flooding.

Cubo, which opened its doors in Derby city centre earlier this month, is offering temporary space to local businesses affected by wind and rain that swept the country over the weekend.

The newly opened co-working office space will be offering free hot desks on a first-come-first-serve basis to local businesses that have had their premises damaged by recent storms. Developer Staton Young, which owns the grade A office space, will be reviewing cases on an individual basis to determine the timeline and requirements of the support they need.

Rebecca Brough, managing director at Staton Young, said:

“As business owners, we understand the detrimental effect a storm like this can have on a business of any size, especially start-ups and small businesses.

“We specifically chose Derby as the first UK location for Cubo because of the city’s growing need for grade A office space, and its dynamic and creative workforce – and following the widespread flooding we have seen across the city, we are keen to ensure that we support the local business community in any way we can.”

Staton Young spent more than £750,000 on the transformation of the Grade II listed Old Post Office building in Victoria Street – which has resulted in stunning contemporary serviced office space in the city centre.

Designed by Leonard Design Architects, the high-tech space features 180 desks and has been created to address the needs of modern workers while still offering traditional office requirements.

Tenants can enjoy free speciality tea and coffee, community managers, daily cleaners, fruit water stations, building access 24/7, work and social events, mail and package handling, networking events and bicycle storage.

Rebecca added:

“By offering free working space from our Derby office, we hope to support many small and start-up businesses based in the city as ultimately, these are the backbone of the local economy. We encourage any business who has been affected by the storm to get in touch with us so we can discuss how we can best support your business.”

Staton Young has kept the original features of the historic city centre Post Office building and has transformed the space into 20,000 sq ft of luxury, modern office space with reception, co-working, hot desking, meeting rooms and communal areas.

From freelancers working alone, to larger organisations, Cubo has a range of options which include hot desks, designated desks, private offices, and Cubo studios.
