Leading online pharmacy further cements commitment to patient safety with new hire

Pioneering online pharmacy UK Meds has further reinforced its commitment to patient safety by appointing experienced advanced clinical practitioner Shaeeb Ali as its clinical lead pharmacist and chief clinical officer.

Shaeeb’s role has a dual function; firstly, as a chief clinical officer overseeing clinical service leadership, management and mentorship, coordination and communication, reporting and documentation, professional development, operating procedures, and safety measures. Secondly, as a clinical lead, prescribing medications, supervising prescribers, providing advice, and improving patient safety.

Shaeeb said: “I’ll be making improvements to and reviewing our current systems on the website, developing existing systems and infrastructure, and looking into new and innovative ways of engaging with patients.

“I will also be working more closely with the prescribers, becoming both a referral point and mentor to them, as well as bridging between the pharmacy and customer service side of the business. Part of my role could be summed up as clinical governance, ensuring patient safety and appropriate training provision to mitigate any potential risks.”

UK Meds is a family business that provides a trusted healthcare service, allowing people access to the medications they have a medical need for around the clock – and delivering them straight to their door. Regulated by the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC), UK Meds uses highly qualified, UK-based prescribers to review prescription requests and, if approved, these are then dispensed from its Nottingham-based pharmacy.

Pharmacist and advanced clinical practitioner Shaeeb has 10 years’ experience working in GP surgeries. Having previously worked in the Bradford area, he moved to the firm, based in Castle Marina, this year and is looking forward to the exciting new venture.

Shaeeb added:

“In my previous role as an advanced clinical practitioner, I assessed, diagnosed, and treated illnesses. My experience working in general medical practice has given me plenty of time with patients dealing with everything from the common cold to those experiencing severe pneumonia and needing hospital admission the same day.

“I conducted consultations and home visits, referred patients to secondary and tertiary care services, and interpreted pathology on a daily basis, giving me a wealth of experience in patient care. This new role will allow me to transfer those skills to UK Meds, which is effectively a general practice online, so having someone like me with that experience will really help translate that to a digital sphere.

“UK Meds is a family run business and since joining, I’ve really appreciated the more personal atmosphere I have found myself in. It is also an exciting opportunity to bring forward my prior skills and knowledge to a more executive role. I’m enjoying the chance to exercise my management skills, while still keeping in touch and working with patients on a daily basis.”

UK Meds was established in May 2016 by father and son duo Joe and Mason Soiza. The online pharmacy business operates nationally, selling lifestyle products and prescription-only medicines.

Managing director Joe said:

“It’s our aim to give people an alternative choice when sourcing lifestyle products and prescription-only medicines, and we’re dedicated to ensuring our patients are confident that it’s safe to access these items.

“To strengthen the safety measures surrounding the purchasing of medicines online, we invest heavily in new technology and continually strive to put in place rigorous procedures that operate in accordance with applicable legislation. Shaeeb is a highly experienced pharmacist and advanced care practitioner, so we’re delighted to have him on board to further protect our patients.”
