Ten newly qualified accountants at Duncan & Toplis

Ten trainees have qualified as professional accountants at Duncan & Toplis

There are celebrations across Lincolnshire, Nottinghamshire and Leicestershire as ten trainees at Duncan & Toplis have qualified as professional accountants.

The accountants, based at the company’s offices in Lincoln, Grantham, Boston, Sleaford, Loughborough and Newark have earned their qualifications as part of Duncan & Toplis’ trainee scheme.

The ten new accountants who’ve qualified through Duncan & Toplis are: Edward Spenceley, Krys McQueen, Thea Moody, James Lalyk, Joe Bannister, Geraint Price, Helen Channing, Lauren Bates, Sarah Adlington and Haydn Yeates.

Nine of the ten are continuing to pursue great careers in accountancy with Duncan & Toplis, which holds the title of ICAEW East Midlands Large Accountancy Firm of the Year, while Heyden Yeates is to pursue other career options.

Duncan & Toplis’ Managing Director, Adrian Reynolds said:

“We’re very proud of the support we give to people setting out to begin rewarding careers in accountancy. Being one of the oldest, largest and most respected accountancy groups in the region, many of the most senior people at Duncan & Toplis started their careers in exactly the same way so it’s great to see so many young people following in our footsteps.

“Duncan & Toplis has been improving its offer for new trainees with new and improved training schemes, development programmes and leadership opportunities and we’ve earned a reputation as a great employer in the area. Helping ten new accountants to qualify in one go is a big achievement for the company, but it’s all down to the hard work and dedication of these individuals. I’d like to congratulate them on their success and I wish them all the best for their careers in accountancy.”

While some of the newly qualified accountants began their training straight out of school, college or university, a number have successfully retrained after exploring other careers.

One of the newly qualified accountants, Helen Channing said:

‘Having initially joined Duncan and Toplis as an AAT student I am thrilled to have recently qualified as a Chartered Accountant. Duncan and Toplis has supported me throughout my training period, which I am extremely grateful for. I am now looking forward to developing my professional career and working on building strong client relationships.’

Geraint Price who qualified while working at Duncan & Toplis in Loughborough was formerly a professional footballer, playing for Portsmouth F.C’s youth team and reserves. Geraint said:

“Qualifying as an accountant is a really big moment for me. I had to give up professional football after suffering an injury, so managing to build a new career in a completely different profession has been a challenge. I chose to join Duncan & Toplis over some of the much larger firms in the capital because it’s a much better place to work with great opportunities and I’ve not looked back since. The team here is really supportive and I’ve really enjoyed learning alongside them. Duncan & Toplis has put a lot of effort into helping me to grow and I’m really grateful. I’ll now be working to help Duncan & Toplis to support more sports organisations in the area and I’m excited by what the future holds.”

2019 marks Duncan & Toplis’ 95th anniversary. The company, which was established in 1925, is now one of the largest independent firms of chartered accountants and business advisers in the Midlands.
