RU Group ‘Tough Mudders’ Raise Funds for Nottingham School

Money raised by The RU Group team at this year’s event donated to Bluecoat School to fund Employability Workshop through Young Enterprise.

Over 150 students at a Nottingham School have taken part in an employability workshop thanks to the fundraising efforts of one of the region’s leading financial advice firms.

Earlier this year, in a far cry from their normal day jobs, several members of the team from The RU Group, took part in the Tough Mudder event at Belvoir Castle to fundraise for Young Enterprise and The Bluecoat School. The firm raised just over £700 and donated the money to Young Enterprise. This enabled Young Enterprise to provide a series of Employability Workshops for pupils at Bluecoat School in Aspley earlier this term.

Ian Browne, Head of Advice at The RU Group, was joined by seven of his colleagues to deliver the workshops at the school. The RU Group has supported Young Enterprise, the national charity committed to helping young people succeed by learning about business and the world of work, since 2018 with staff giving up their time to visit Nottinghamshire schools and mentor young people.

The RU Group volunteers used the workshops, which were attended by over 150 students, to provide real-life career and employment stories, along with practical advice about “building” a CV and guidance on how to approach interviews. Research by Young Enterprise has shown that having this type of mentoring can significantly increase a young person’s life chances and job prospects.

Ian Browne comments:

“It was fantastic to see so many young people involved in the workshops. The team and I were very impressed with their enthusiasm and the variety of questions they asked. I feel this is so beneficial for both the students and our team, especially the younger team members. We are all looking forward to continuing our work with the school at future events in the New Year.”

Ian adds:

“Our aim as financial planning experts is to provide our clients with advice to enable them to create the life they want to live both now and in the future. I hope that by supporting Young Enterprise whose vision is for every young person in the UK to leave education with the knowledge, skills and attitudes to succeed in work and life, our RU team can inspire students to realise their potential so they can live the life they choose.”
