Christmas comes early with Hackwood School shoebox appeal

Miller Homes East Midlands is spreading the Christmas spirit early as it teams up with Hackwood Primary Academy in Derby to help deliver gifts to children overseas.

Partnering with charity organisation Samaritans Purse for its ‘Operation Christmas Child campaign’, children at the school - located next to the Hackwood Park development - will fill fifty shoeboxes with festive gifts for those living in poverty.

Between 11th and 18th November, pupils will be arriving at the school with colouring books, toys, clothing and other gifts to fill each box as a contribution to the charity’s national efforts. Once packed, the charity will be delivering shoeboxes to 11 countries and over a half a million children across the world.

Alastair Parsons, area sales director for Miller Homes Midlands said:

“The holidays are a special time for many families across the globe, and the support from Samaritans Purse allows those less fortunate to experience the festivities too.

“As a national housebuilder we are committed to supporting charities whenever we can, and this activity is no exception. As a team, we’re delighted to lend a hand and help the children at Hackwood Primary Academy play their part in making this Christmas memorable for everyone.”

Stella Binoy, Head of Academy of Hackwood Primary Academy, added:

“Over the last few weeks, our pupils have been really excited, donating toys and teddies to support Operation Christmas Child. Working with children, I understand how important the festive season can be, so I’m really excited to get them involved.”

The school, built as a joint partnership between Miller Homes and other local organisations, is located on Starflower Way and will provide 210 places for children in Derby, including those in the neighbouring development, Hackwood Park.

Miller Homes’ Hackwood Park development offers a range of three to five-bedroom homes, including the four-bedroom Darley family home. With its generous family kitchen area and a formal dining room, the Darley is the perfect space for Christmas celebrations.

Miller Homes is committed to customer satisfaction and has recently been awarded a five-star rating in the Home Builders Federation (HBF) National Home Builders Federation New Home Customer Satisfaction Survey for another year, following success in 2018.
