South Derbyshire engineering firm celebrates 20 years and new senior appointment

A South Derbyshire based civil and structural engineering consultancy has cemented twenty years in the industry with a high-profile appointment.

Swadlincote-based Structural Design Associates (SDA) has recently appointed former senior structural engineer, Martyn Connelly to the role of associate. He steps into this role following the retirement of founding member, Keith Williamson, who left the business in June.

Andrea Bradbury has also joined the business as a new business development coordinator.

In its 20-year history, SDA has increased its offerings from structural engineering, to also include civil engineering, transport planning and flood defence services. The additional services were introduced in November 2018, and are already proving popular with clients as the year anniversary of their introduction approaches.

Newly appointed associate, Martyn Connelly commented on SDA’s expansion and future plans:

“This is a great time for the firm. We’re celebrating 20 years of business, and these new opportunities really open up doors for us - and I hope to see growth continue for the next two decades and beyond.”

Also part of the future growth plan is a geographical move, with Birmingham being cited as a hot-spot for a second office.

Martyn adds:

“There is a strategic note of growth within Birmingham, and an the addition of a second office in a city that is a hive of construction and impressive infrastructure will be hugely beneficial.

“We would still keep our Derbyshire base, but allowing expansion into the West Midlands will allow us to meet the levels of growth that we expect in the coming years.”

In addition to offering a bigger team, new services and a new location, SDA which was purchased by capital investment specialists, Integrated Food Projects (IFP) in 2017, is also launching a revamped website before the end of the year, demonstrating the new sectors that the firm can offer to new and existing clients.

Mark Muckle, general manager at SDA will be leading the digital expansion plans:

“With a new website comes a new social media drive.

“We will be welcoming Martyn to his new role and with a new social media strategy alongside the website, this will not only allow us to keep in touch with existing clients, but also allow us to reach out to potential clients, too.”

“We're excited to build on our recent success and will continue with our ambitious growth plans over the coming years."

Structural Design Associates was acquired by Integrated Food Projects last year, when it launched a new service engineering division to advise clients of both businesses, specifically those within the food and beverage industry.
