Leading Leather Jacket Manufacturer Celebrates 40 Year Milestone

Grantham-based leather jacket manufacturer, Hidepark celebrates 40 years in the industry this month, despite sadly losing its managing director earlier this year.

The business began when late founder, Ian Blackburn launched the company from his home garage 40 years ago, and after occupying high street premises it now operates from a purpose-built, 10,000 square foot building in Grantham.

With a team of 10 people, the business remains a family one and has continued to grow and develop amidst adversity and challenges in recent years.

Carole Donger, who is now MD of Hidepark and sister of Ian, said:

“It has been a privilege to continue with what Ian started 40 years ago, albeit with a lot of pressure to do it justice. He would have loved to see it reach this milestone. The business has grown from a small operation to a respected and leading e-commerce retailer, equipping thousands of people each year with leather jackets, and I couldn’t be more proud.”

After 40 years in the business, the company has its sights set on a record five years, explains manager of Hidepark, Andy Bojko:

“Our turnover continues to rise year after year, something that we put down to the changes in retail with moving to online selling proving a big boost for us. We feel we now have more contact with our customers and are able to offer a more personal experience.

“I think it’s the same feeling for most businesses at the moment, whilst we are optimistic, we know we are operating in uncertain times, but we have a dedicated team here that pride themselves on customer service, which is really helping us to continue with our success.

“Leather has always been a vital part of people’s wardrobes and a staple fashion item and I’m sure it will continue to be for many years to come, where I expect we will be a part of that, our classic designs still remain as popular as ever and we are confident for the future.”
