Leading developer recruits new building buddies in Corby

Leading developer Barratt Homes Northampton has begun its bespoke school award scheme at Priors Hall ALC as creative pupils look forward to the year long project.

The Building Buddies Award is being hosted at the local primary school close to the homebuilder’s Lake View development at Priors Hall Park, guiding pupils through the construction process with four exciting activities.

The specially designed scheme is intended to encourage children to show an interest in the industry, helping them to consider a career in construction from an early age.

The participating year five pupils at Priors Hall ALC have now been presented with the workbooks and are now preparing for their first activity, naming a development and designing a logo.

Chris Woolhouse, Headteacher at Priors Hall ALC, said:

“We are very excited to start the Building Buddies Award and teach the children about construction and all of the aspects to housebuilding.

“It’s such a fun scheme and we’re very thankful for Barratt Homes for choosing us to participate.”

Split into four quarters the award scheme is set to teach young people about planning, land, sales and marketing, technical, design and construction.

Further to the naming and logo design competition, pupils at the school will partake in a writing competition, a wildlife friendly exercise, site visit and poster competition.

The winner of each competition will be presented with a prize whilst the school itself will be presented with a coveted Building Buddies Award in a ceremony at the end of the school year.

Alison Raine, Sales Director at Barratt Homes Northampton, said:

“With our Building Buddies Award, we have the chance to educate young children about the industry as well as raising awareness about important issues such as site safety.

“We’re thrilled to be working with Priors Hall ALC throughout the year and we hope the pupils enjoy the project.

“We’re looking forward to seeing the creativity of the children grow with each design and literature task, whilst giving them an understanding of the construction process at our nearby Lake View at Priors Hall Park development.”
