Midlands Hydraulics firm forces ahead

A leading hydraulics business in Warwickshire has purchased new premises with funding from Yorkshire Bank as part of its growth plans.

Trident Hydraulics, which designs, builds and delivers complete hydraulic systems and circuits for use in a range of sectors, has purchased a half-acre site in Southam, on which it has constructed a bespoke building to enhance production capabilities, complete with a 5,000 square foot workshop, clean room and 3D printing and modelling design studio.

The new unit will be equipped with state-of-the-art robotics technology to aid in the assembly of components (including the business’ fluid control operations, self-made hydraulic valves and manifold assemblies), as well as other technical engineering projects. This will allow the company to supply a wider range of its own components, relying less on imports from overseas to service clients.

The purchase of the premises is one part of the business’ future growth ambitions, as it aims to double its workforce by 2021, expanding from eight to 16 employees, with new hires planned for technical mechanical engineering roles across both its new and existing unit.

Trident Hydraulics was formed in November 2002 by Mike and Clare Forster and works with both large and small business across a range of industries, including manufacturing, automotive, agricultural and chemical.

The company now plans to build out its own product set through the development of miniature hydraulics components for use in the production of robotic arms (artificial limbs). It is also creating a training scheme to deliver teaching for future hydraulic engineers across the region, with an aim to create more local job opportunities and boost skills.

Speaking about the deal with Yorkshire Bank, Mike Forster, Managing Director at Trident Hydraulics, said:

“The new facility is exactly what we’ve been looking for to help us ramp up our production capacity and build our brand’s stature in the marketplace.

“We had outgrown our original premises and so this new site is integral in helping us to take on more contracts, as well as being able to service customers on-site, instead of always travelling out to them. We can also now accommodate large machinery and vehicles, for fit out. We forecast revenue and turnover increases as a direct result of this venture.
