Barratt Homes employees take on the Peak District for charity hike

A team of employees from the Nottinghamshire-based Barratt Homes North Midlands joined the homebuilder’s inaugural charity event to raise funds for Mind and The British Heart Foundation.

The first ever Big Barratt Hike, organised by parent company Barratt Developments, took place in Derbyshire.

The participants undertook the Edale Skyline challenge, a 21-mile circular walk, starting and ending in Castleton. The route covers 4,448 feet of ascent and typically takes between eight and twelve hours to complete. With a considerable number of uneven trails and boggy ground to cover, the hike was an enjoyable challenge for all involved.

The team from the North Midlands head office, which was one of 26 teams from across the company, included: Josh Malone, Zoe Nightingale, Stephanie Morgan, Danielle Penna, Gary Wootton, Harry George, Ashley Pycroft, Chris Annett, Mark Potter and Chloe Nash.

Mind is a mental health charity which aims to improve services, raise awareness and promote better understanding of the mental health problems that one in four people face every year. The British Heart Foundation conducts crucial research to find cures and treatments for heart and circulatory diseases.

Josh Malone, Marketing Manager at Barratt Homes North Midlands, said:

“We were really excited to take on the challenge of doing the Big Barratt Hike and are really pleased with what we achieved as a team.

“Working for a leading housebuilder means we put local communities and charities at the heart of what we do and we are delighted with the amount raised.”

In order to prepare for the challenge, employees were given a training plan that covered the nine weeks leading up to the walk, which offers picturesque views of the Edale Valley and a panoramic view of the route in its entirety from Rushup Edge.

The Barratt Homes North Midlands team managed to raise £5,019.35, contributing to an overall total of £99,130 raised by all 26 groups. Barratt Developments matched the amount, bringing the final donation figure to £200,000.
