The award of a lifetime for Hope Against Cancer’s Chairman Rick Moore

The evening of Tuesday 5th November saw the much-anticipated inaugural awards ceremony organised by Voluntary Action Leicester and Leicestershire (VALL), placing the spotlight on the charities and volunteers who offer invaluable help to the most vulnerable members of our community.
Hope Against Cancer’s Chairman, Rick Moore won the ‘Lifetime achievement award’, with both Hope Against Cancer and Eileen Richards MBE, Hope Trustee, also nominated for awards.
Working across the whole of the county, VALL is a Leicester-based charity who have been supporting the voluntary sector for over 50 years. The awards ceremony - held at the Morningside Arena - was a true celebration of many life-changing organisations and projects.
Amongst the night’s big winners was Rick Moore, Chairman of Hope Against Cancer who took home the Lifetime Achievement Award. Sitting on the charity’s board of trustees is just one of the many roles Rick has fulfilled for numerous organisations and committees throughout Leicestershire. From being Chair of Governors of Fullhurst Community College (and being part of its turnaround success) to judging the Lord Lieutenant’s Awards for Young People, the list of Rick’s volunteering accomplishments really did read like a lifetime’s work in itself.
His work with Hope Against Cancer may just be part of the reason he was given this prestigious accolade, but it is something which is very close to his heart. The charity, covering Leicestershire and Rutland, funds cutting-edge research and clinical trials for local people living with cancer. They strive to create a future where more people survive and are making huge steps forward with the innovative research they fund, providing better outcomes for many patients. Working in partnership with our local Universities and Hospitals, they are making Leicestershire a real hub of expertise for cancer treatment and research.
When asked about his award win, Rick told us:
“I really didn’t expect to receive such a wonderful award for simply doing what I love to do. I have so much respect for the work which VALL has been doing for such a long time so to be recognised by them is an honour in itself.”
CEO of Hope Against Cancer, Nigel Rose added:
“We are all absolutely delighted with Rick’s win. He is a real asset to our charity, and we have always recognised the massive contribution he makes to us, but to see this acknowledged by VALL is great for him and great for Hope Against Cancer too.”
