Local apprentice named best in the East Midlands

Luke Twigger, from Ilkeston, scooped the Redrow Homes East Midlands’ Apprentice of the Year title, thanks to his willingness to go above and beyond, supporting his colleagues and learning new skills quickly.

Inspired to take up a trade when by his grandad built his own dream home, 20-year-old Luke wanted to learn all there was about building homes. Luke became an apprentice electrician at Redrow, and works in a fast paced environment, learning new skills every day and constantly striving to be the best.

Luke, who is currently working at Knights Keep in Stretton, said:

“I’m so pleased to be named Apprentice of the Year for the East Midlands, it’s brilliant to have my hard work recognised.

“I have always found the property industry extremely interesting, and Redrow has given me all the tools I need to build a solid career. I’ve learned so much already, from practical electronics skills to team building, and it’s great to have everyone working towards the same goal.

“For anyone thinking about a career in the property industry, I would definitely recommend doing an apprenticeship, it’s great to be building a career, and especially for a company that really looks after its team members.”

Redrow’s award-winning apprenticeship and trainee schemes are industry-leading and currently support almost 300 people in trade, administration, technical and commercial roles.

Redrow has one of the industry’s best records for training and developing its staff, and as a member and patron of The 5% Club, Redrow is committed to ensuring at least 5% of its work force is made up of apprentices, graduates or sponsored students. Yet in practice, the business already goes far beyond this as 15% of the total workforce are trainees.

The apprenticeship scheme at Redrow provides young people, as well as those looking to make a career change, the opportunity to kick-start a successful career in a skilled trade, administration, or a technical or commercial role, through on the job training and classroom learning. Through the apprenticeship scheme, Redrow also supports entrants in obtaining an NVQ.
