Trading report shows high demand for new homes in the East Midlands

Demand for new homes in the East Midlands remains strong, as end-of-year figures from national housebuilder Bellway show the region continues to be a key growth area for housebuilding.

Bellway’s trading update, published on Tuesday (October 15), reported that more than 600 new homes were completed and sold by its East Midlands division in the year to July 31, 2019.

This makes the division – which is based at Meridian Business Park in Leicester and is building new homes across Leicestershire, Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire and Staffordshire – one of the housebuilder’s top performing regions outside London.

Sales Director for Bellway East Midlands, Carolyne Watkinson, said:

“Our end-of-year sales figures show just how much of a key growth area the East Midlands region is.

“The fact that we have successfully completed the sale and occupation of over 600 houses really highlights the strength of the property market over the last year.

“A big part of our success is down to the fact we focus on providing homes people can afford in locations where they want to live. The Government-backed Help to Buy scheme has also been really important in helping more people onto the property ladder.

“Retaining five-star builder status with the HBF (Home Builders Federation) for the third consecutive year has also been a major factor in driving sales. People appreciate the high quality of construction on offer and are reassured by the fact that nine out of ten customers would recommend us to a friend.”

Help to Buy means people can buy a new-build home up to the value of £600,000 with a five per cent deposit and a 75 per cent mortgage. The remaining 20 per cent is provided in the form of a Government-backed equity loan, which is interest free for the first five years.
