Construction apprentice embarks on dream career with Bellway

A trainee joiner and carpenter from Loughborough believes that his apprenticeship has set him on the path towards his dream career.

Jack Sawyer joined Bellway in September 2017 after the housebuilder’s apprenticeship scheme was recommended to him by a family friend.

The 18-year-old is working towards an NVQ level 2 qualification in carpentry and joinery, and spends one day a week at Leicester College, and the other four on site at Bellway’s Henhurst Fields development in Burton on Trent.

Jack said:

“My apprenticeship is helping me to learn all different aspects of the joinery trade and I’m really enjoying it so far.

“Working on site can be very fun and challenging – every day is different and it’s great getting to meet new people. I’d always wanted to work in an outdoor environment and when I looked at the various apprenticeships online, I decided that joinery was the one for me.

“I would 100 per cent recommend the Bellway apprenticeship scheme. The on-site staff are very helpful and insightful, and I believe it has enabled me to gain the skills needed for a bright future in the industry.”

Paul Matthews, site manager for Bellway at Henhurst Fields, said:

“We are committed to helping young people find fulfilling careers in the construction industry and it’s great to see the progress that Jack has made since joining our apprenticeship scheme.

“Apprenticeships are a great first step into working life, and we are seeing more and more young people go down this route as they begin their careers.

“While the demand for new homes continues to grow, it’s vital that we continue our investment in the next generation of housebuilders.”
