Newby Castleman brings newbie trainee accountants on board

Leicester-based chartered accountants Newby Castleman has welcomed two enthusiastic school leavers onto the team as Trainee Chartered Accountants at its Regent Road office.

Ameera Aziz, 19, from Leicester, has joined the firm from Leicester Grammar School, where she earned A Levels in Maths, Economics and Spanish. Ameera’s new position is not, however, her first foray into work with Newby Castleman: she completed a period of work experience with the firm in 2016, which she preferred to her other placements in commercial firms and which led her to seek a permanent role with the company.

George Hincks, also 19, from Ashby-de-la-Zouch, left Ashby School this year with A Levels in Economics, Business and Geography. Both he and Ameera were keen to get stuck into their new roles – and, within days of joining, the trainees had each begun to work on accounts preparation for sole traders, partnerships and even limited companies. Ameera has also begun work on bound accounts under partner Joanne Chilton, while George is working under Mark Goodman, one of the firm’s managers.

In addition to the pair’s shared passion for numbers, their hobbies are also somewhat alike: George plays as a scrum-half for Loughborough RFC, while Ameera enjoys gymnastics and is a brown belt in karate.

George explains:

“Newby Castleman stood out to me as a particularly reliable and supportive employer for trainees. I definitely feel this already – everyone is really friendly and I’m comfortable in the role. So far, I’ve found it interesting to learn about how real businesses run, through charting their cash flow over the course of the year.

“I’m most looking forward to the training and professional development courses I’ll be attending over the next few years, applying the skills and knowledge I learn there at work, and eventually becoming chartered!”

Ameera says:

“What I’m enjoying most at the moment is the variety of taking on a different job every day, each with its own challenges: I feel this will help me to become well-rounded. It’s also the best feeling when you manage to balance the bank! I can honestly say, too, that I’ve been supported 24/7 since the day I started in the role.

“Ultimately, I’d like to work my way up to Accounts Manager as I’m really enjoying the nature of the work I’ve done so far.”

Partner Joanne Chilton concludes:

“Ameera and George have impressed us all with their keenness to learn and their positive attitude to the challenges of their new role. It’s a pleasure and a privilege to support our trainees as they take on greater responsibilities and work towards obtaining leading Chartered status.”
