Frank Key Delivers with Midlands' First Five Star Safety Lorry

Frank Key is the first builders merchant in the Midlands to put a five star safety rated Scania L-series truck into service, now delivering to customers across Nottinghamshire.

The £125,000 L-series vehicle is designed to improve the safety of road users, including pedestrians, cyclists and motorcyclists. Innovations include a ‘city safe’ window in the passenger door, increasing visibility for the driver and helping to reduce road risk in busy cities. The vehicle qualifies for the highest star rating under the Transport for London Direct Vision Scheme, a safety permit for all HGVs over 12-tonnes.

Robert Sansom is the owner of Frank Key and the driving force behind the company's decision to opt for an L-series model. He says:

“We are delighted to take delivery of the first Scania L Cab in the Midlands. As a family run business, we are always looking to invest for the benefit of our customers and staff. Keep a lookout for ‘RS19 KEY’ on a road near you across Nottinghamshire.”

Frank Key is currently embarking on a period of concerted growth. The investment represents a positive opportunity to help future-proof the business, in tandem with the rollout of a new brand identity and a number of new initiatives aimed at raising the profile of the company’s five building supplies and 14 plant and tool hire branches.

James Norton is managing director of Frank Key Group. He says:

“This is the right time in the business’s development to update how we present ourselves to the market. We have strengthened our leadership team with key strategic appointments that now provide us with the knowledge and experience to enter a new phase of growth.

“The newest addition to the Frank Key fleet will be on the roads across Nottinghamshire with our new brand livery. The new Frank Key look and feel can already be experienced at our Sheffield branch, following £250,000 rebrand and refurbishment, and will gradually be rolled out across all of our UK depots.”

The Direct Vision Standard (DVS) for heavy goods vehicles (HGVs) assesses and rates how much a driver can see directly from their HGV cab in relation to other road users. DVS uses a star system to rate HGVs over 12 tonnes from 0 (lowest) to 5 (highest), based on how much a driver can see directly through their cab windows. For more details visit: https://tfl.gov.uk.

Frank Key’s new brand architecture includes group and divisional logos, signage, fleet livery, workwear, marketing assets and digital communications.

Frank Key is an independent family-owned company with its HQ in the Daybrook, Nottingham and branches across Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire and Yorkshire. For more information, visit www.frank-key.co.uk.
