Hinckley & Rugby’s week building good mental health

Yoga, jigsaws and teatime talks all featured during a week of mental health awareness for staff at Hinckley & Rugby Building Society.

The week of activities was timed to include World Mental Health Day and designed to encourage and inform colleagues about looking after their own mental well-being and recognising the signs when someone may need support.

During the week Society staff took part in mental health awareness sessions, yoga, meditation, mindfulness workshops, tea and talk sessions and a jigsaw puzzle to encourage de-stressing and refocus.

And on World Mental Health Day itself, staff wore green clothing as part of a global show of solidarity with the aims of mental health education, awareness and advocacy against social stigma.

The week was rounded off with a pyjama day, with head office staff invited to work in their nightwear in support of LAMP (Leicestershire Action for Mental Health Project).

Sam Roberts, Hinckley & Rugby’s people development manager, said:

“We decided to run these workshops as we wanted staff to realise that your mental health is just as important as your physical health.

“The sessions were really popular and we're really pleased with how many staff have taken part. We've had some great feedback.

“Talking about mental health and raising awareness of how to spot if someone is struggling is really important so it has been great to see the response that we have had.”
