The Tap House to bring self-pour beer taps to Nottingham

New plans have been unveiled to transform one of Nottingham’s most iconic buildings into the city’s first ever self-serve craft beer bar.

10 Byard Lane is famous for being the first ever store of Nottingham fashion legend Paul Smith. From early November, it will be transformed into The Tap House, where customers will be able to choose from over 20 craft beers, lagers, ciders and natural wines.

On arrival, guests will receive their own personal tab card which they will be able to use to activate one of the venue’s 24 self-serve taps, offering everything from a Tonka Bean IPA, Lindemans Kriek Cherry Lambic and Paulaner House Lager, to Hawkes Urban Orchard Cider and a naturally organic and vegan sauvignon blanc.  

Customers can select a range of drink sizes from a sample of around 50ml to a schooner (three quarters of a pint). At the end of the visit, the tab card is handed to a member of staff, who then provides the bill.

The concept is being launched by Sam Benjamin, who in 2017 opened Another? Wine Bar in Trinity Square. For the launch of The Tap House, Sam will be joined by his brother Tom, who will jointly manage the venue. 

Open 11am-11pm Sunday to Thursday and 11am-12 midnight, on Fridays and Saturdays, The Tap House will also specialise in Detroit style deep-pan pizzas, ranked as one of hottest emerging food trends.

Cooked in rectangular tins, the Detroit style pizzas are famously served as square slices and feature a gooey, doughy centre and crisp outer crust. The Tap House will serve five core flavours and a rotating guest flavour either as a full pizza or by the slice. Passers-by will also be able to pick up a takeaway slice for lunch or afternoon snack from a Slice Shop at the front of the bar.

Commenting on the launch of The Tap House, Sam said:

“When we launched Another? Wine Bar, I always knew that the self-pour concept was scalable and it’s been hugely successful. The Tap House is a natural evolution for us and it will have a similar feel and ethos to Another? Wine Bar, whilst also having its own unique touches.

“The world of craft beer can be quite daunting so we want our customers to be able to explore it for themselves and sample everything from our house larger through to session IPAs. During every visit, we want them to find a new favourite!

“We’re thrilled to be introducing Detroit style pizzas to Nottingham. Every food blog is raving about them at the moment, so they’re a must-try.

“I’d also like to thank the team at Fraser Brown Solicitors for their continued support. They were instrumental in helping us with Another? Wine Bar when we launched last year, so having them onboard again with The Tap House has been great.”

Tom added:

“Our aim is to create a specialist venue that doesn’t take itself too seriously. We’re lucky enough to have secured a fantastic building with a great history and we want people to be able to relax and enjoy it.

“We’ll be introducing special tasting events and hosting our own regular pub quiz. For those who get a taste for our pizzas, the great news is we will also be offering bottomless beer, prosecco and pizza events too!”

The 60-seater interior of The Tap House is being created by hospitality design specialist Concorde, and will feature a centrepiece illuminated beer store.
