BDO East Midlands takes to the saddle to support staff wellbeing

The East Midlands office of national accountancy and advisory firm BDO has taken on a ‘wheelie’ difficult challenge in a bid to improve wellbeing at work.

Colleagues collectively cycled an impressive 50 miles as part of the business’ Chain Challenge which aims to raise awareness of wellbeing and the importance of mental health.

The two-week programme incorporated a chain of both physical and non-physical events which support an on-going mission to end the stigma of mental health in the workplace and promote best practice in relation to managing mental wellbeing.

Colleagues from the firm’s 17 office locations were given the opportunity to take part in a range of wellbeing events and activities including cycle rides, organised walks, office yoga and meditation sessions.

As part of this, five participants from the East Midlands office completed an invigorating 10-mile cycle, starting at Nottingham train station heading towards Beeston then back down the river Trent through Wilford and crossing Wilford suspension bridge before finishing back at the station

The task is part of a wider business initiative which saw the firm cycle 10,000 miles collectively, bringing together more than 5,000 people across the UK, reinforcing a positive culture throughout the business.

Partner and Head of BDO in the East Midlands Andrew Mair, said:

“For three years, we’ve been using MIND’s 5 Ways of Wellbeing to help our people pay more attention to their own wellbeing, and I am incredibly proud of the progress we have made.

“Seeing the office come together and align with a common purpose of supporting wellbeing, helping to create a positive culture for mental health to thrive throughout the business, is a real positive for us.

Our people are dedicated to the firm’s wider CSR initiatives which inspire many across the UK, and this collective achievement is testament to this.”

With particular expertise working with manufacturing and international businesses, the BDO Nottingham office provides a unique depth of experience to clients across a broad range of sectors.
