Finalists Announced for the Medilink East Midlands Business Awards 2019

Some of the best and brightest Life Sciences companies from across the East Midlands have been shortlisted for the Medilink East Midlands Business Awards 2019.

The awards ceremony and gala dinner will take place on Thursday 5 December at The Radisson Blu hotel at East Midlands Airport.

The business awards celebrate the achievements, breakthroughs and innovations of companies operating or moving into the healthcare, med tech or bioscience sector. The applications are set to be reviewed by an independent panel of judges to select the winning companies, who will be crowned winners on the night.

Winners of the Medilink EM regional awards will then automatically be shortlisted for the national Medilink UK awards on 1 April 2020, which will be held at the NEC in Birmingham as part of the MTI Expo and Conference, run by Rapid News.

The shortlisted companies are:

Start-Up Award, sponsored by Nottingham Trent University

Alcuris, a Loughborough-based start-up formed by Loughborough University Student Alex Nash. The company’s first product range, Memo, all stemmed from Alex’s Grandfather being diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease, further complicated by type 2 diabetes.

Nutrivitality, an innovative Derby-based manufacturer of supplements. Nutrivitality has spent 10 years of research investigating ways to solve the problem with poor absorption. Traditional vitamin supplements only deliver up to 10% of the vitamins they contain into the body because the molecules are too large and are broken down by the stomach before they can be properly absorbed.

Pharmaseal, a Nottingham-based developer of B2B software for the management of clinical trials, encompassing trial execution, safety, quality & regulatory issues. Pharmaseal want to give customers increased control of their clinical trials and product development. They have applied industry expertise, innovative thinking and advanced automation to build and operate an integrated enterprise platform which allows biopharmaceutical and medical device companies to manage all of their clinical trials effectively.

VR Therapies, which is pioneering an innovative use of  Virtual Reality (VR) for disabled, children and older clients to provide calming and anxiety reducing therapies. The company’s goal is to bring VR therapies to those who would benefit most but are least likely to access it. They are the first social enterprise which provides VR therapies for children with special needs and adults with disabilities.

Export Achievement Award, sponsored by Morningside Pharmaceuticals

Inspiration Healthcare, a provider of high-quality medical devices for neonatology and critical care worldwide.

Upperton Pharma Solutions, a Nottingham-based specialist contract development manufacturing organisation (CDMO) focused on using spray drying to develop novel delivery solutions for the Pharmaceutical and Biotechnology industries.

Xenogesis, a Nottingham-based laboratory-based contract research organisation (CRO) specialised in preclinical drug metabolism & pharmacokinetics (DMPK).

The Award for Delivering Innovation in to Health and Care, sponsored by East Midlands Academic Health Science Network

Neater Solutions, a Buxton based manufacturer and supplier of specialist eating and drinking systems for people who have difficulty feeding themselves.

NuVision, a Nottingham-based wound care company which is developing ground breaking high quality and affordable wound care biotherapies.

OCB Media, which designs, produces and delivers healthcare e-learning. Specialist skills include instructional design, digital asset development, Learning Management Systems and Content Authoring systems.

Spirit Clinical, which aims to meet the needs of local populations. In partnership with GPs, local hospitals, community services, mental health services, and charities, they seek to understand the best solution to fit local healthcare needs.

Innovation Award, sponsored by Potter Clarkson

Adaptix, a research and experimental development company which focuses on natural sciences and engineering.

Surepulse Medical, a medical devices manufacturer producing vital sign monitoring solutions for new-born babies who need resuscitation at birth.

One to Watch Award, sponsored by Mills & Reeve LLP

Deep Branch Biotechnology, which has developed a technology that takes carbon dioxide directly from industrial emissions and transforms it into single cell protein, which can be used in the feed industry.

Footfalls & Heartbeats, which has developed a revolutionary and proprietary process for manufacturing smart fabric. Nanoscale interactions that take place within the fabric remove the need for wires or solid-state electronics; 'the textile is the sensor'.

Deal of the Year Award, sponsored by The BioCity Group

Catalent Pharma Solutions’ acquisition of Nottingham based Juniper Pharma.

Quotient, which provides individual or integrated, end-to-end CRO and CDMO services to pharma and biotech companies worldwide.

Sygnature Discovery -a leading drug discovery CRO with expertise across a range of therapeutic and biological target classes.

The event will be hosted by acclaimed stand-up comedian Jimmy McGhie; whose onscreen TV credits include Russell Howard’s Good News. It is set to be an exciting evening of celebration with over 150 industry professionals expected to attend.
