J Tomlinson scoops renewable heat project of the year at the National Energy Efficiency Awards 2019

J Tomlinson is celebrating after taking home the Renewable Heat Project of the Year title at the National Energy Efficiency Awards 2019, alongside client Bromford Housing, supplier Vaillant and funding provider, Area Eco.

The accolade, which marks the first national title won by the maintenance, construction and refurbishment specialist, was awarded in recognition of a ground source heat pump installation scheme that is helping Bromford residents living in a sheltered scheme in Solihull save up to 40% on their heating bills.

The scheme comprised installation of three Vaillant heat pumps, two 800L buffer tanks and weather compensation self-modulating systems across 37 hard-to-treat properties situated within a conservation area, and is expected to save 131,900kg of carbon emission per year (the equivalent of planting approximately 289 trees). As J Tomlinson is an MCS (Microgeneration Certification Scheme)-accredited installer, Bromford will be able to generate additional revenue via RHI and ECO funding, equating to over £570,000 spread across 20 years.

The awards ceremony took place on Friday 27th September at the Vox Conference Centre at the NEC Birmingham and was attended by organisations and individuals across the country. Judges commented:

“This scheme has enabled excellent reduction in carbon emissions and bills in hard-to-treat properties.”

J Tomlinson was also Specially Commended in the RHI Installer/Contractor of the Year category after taking home the regional title at both the East Midlands and West Midlands Energy Efficiency Awards, which took place earlier this year.

Steve Kirkland, managing director (maintenance) at J Tomlinson, commented:

“We’re thrilled to have taken home our first national award in conjunction with Bromford, Vaillant and Area Eco. The New Road project has been a great success in terms of reducing fuel poverty, engaging residents and minimising carbon emissions. Furthermore, the robust design of the scheme will allow J Tomlinson and our client to accurately remotely diagnose any potential issues prior to an engineer visiting site – helping to save time and money.

“We have received excellent feedback from residents on the ease-of-use and efficiency of their new heating system, which has a designed life span of over 100 years.”

J Tomlinson has undertaken 180 RHI installations in the past year alone, including solar, ground and air source heat pumps and LED lighting.
