Chartered status for top trainee at Leicester accountants

An ambitious accountant with local accountancy firm Newby Castleman is celebrating after passing his final exam and earning chartered status after several years of study and on-the-job training.

Matt Sweeney, 24, from Leicester, recently qualified as a Chartered Accountant after finding out he had passed his final case study exam.

Having started out as a trainee accountant at Newby Castleman’s Leicester office on Regent Road three years ago, Matt’s role encompasses accounts preparation, audit, tax and charity accounts. He currently works most closely with partners Stephen Castleman, Joanne Chilton and Paul Barnett.

Matt said:

“It was such a relief to find out I had passed what could be my final exam. Having been completing exams for many years, it feels amazing to know that all the hard work has paid off. Being a sports fan, I’ve booked to go to the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo as a gift to myself for becoming chartered!

“Newby Castleman has provided me with the means to become a chartered accountant and the support given to me by everyone at work has been invaluable. I couldn’t have done it without them.”

Stephen Castleman commented:

“I, the rest of the partners and the whole team here at Newby Castleman are extremely pleased for Matt, not to mention proud of him for his diligence and determination over the last three years.

“Matt’s chartered status is thoroughly deserved and I have no doubt he will continue to work hard and achieve highly throughout his career.”
