Lincoln MP Shines a Spotlight on Leading Manufacturer

Lincoln’s MP Karen Lee has visited manufacturing firm Micrometric in a bid to highlight the importance of UK manufacturers, following the company’s half a million pound investment into a specialist, high-performance laser machine.

The MP for Lincoln was joined by Charlotte Horobin from Make UK, which champions and celebrates British manufacturing. During the visit they learned about the everyday processes that take place at the company and were given a tour of the facilities and expert equipment, including the new high-speed laser cutting machine.

Karen and Charlotte were also able to speak to employees and get a better insight into the work that is being done by the company, which has international clients in the aerospace, automotive and energy sectors.

Karen said:

“I enjoyed my visit to Micrometric; it was very positive to see a thriving local business investing in Lincoln’s economy. As an apprenticeship ambassador I am very pleased to see that Micrometric is providing great opportunities for ambitious young people and I look forward to visiting again in the future.”

Neil Main, Managing Director at Micrometric, commented:

“It was a pleasure to have Karen and Charlotte come and see us; the visit was perfectly timed as we have recently commissioned a new laser machine. It was a great opportunity to showcase what a modern, manufacturing business looks like and explain the challenges that we face as a UK manufacturer.

“Our discussions with Karen were very positive and productive. As the MP for Lincoln, Karen can make influential decisions that can help the manufacturing sector grow – and now that she has a better understanding of our just-in-time supply chain, I’m looking forward to seeing how she can help us to operate more effectively and competitively.”

Charlotte Horobin, Membership Director at Make UK, said:

“The team at Micrometric have always been respected and proactive members of Make UK – an organisation which champions UK manufacturers.

“It’s clear to see that Micrometric value their employees; as well as making sure that existing employees have tools readily available, they’re also investing in the next generation and have taken on several apprentices which is something that Make UK are encouraging all manufacturers to do.

“Despite the political and economic difficulties and changes that are currently affecting businesses like Micrometric, the company is going from strength to strength – and hopefully the support from figureheads like Karen will help the business to get the recognition it deserves.”
