Derbyshire conference centre cooks up a fundraising treat

Staff at a leading Derbyshire conference centre used their culinary skills to help cook up a fundraising treat for members of the community.

Christian Conference Trust, the not-for-profit charity that runs Christian conference centres in Derbyshire, Hertfordshire and Norfolk, organised the charity barbecue at The Hayes conference centre in Swanwick, Derbyshire.

Games and activities took place on the lawn throughout the day as part of the effort to raise money to help purchase a new hospital bed for a young boy named Dylan who was born with Duchenne’s muscular dystrophy.

Bookstall sales and a donation from The Writers’ Summer School in Swanwick helped the fundraising total reach £714.

John Heasman, Chief Executive of CCT, said:

“We were delighted to help support fundraising efforts for young Dylan. It was wonderful to see staff and members of the community join together to enjoy fun, games and food in our beautiful grounds. The event was even blessed with sunshine, which really added to the feel-good factor.”

Over the last 12 years staff at The Hayes have raised more than £13,500 for the Rainbows Hospice, the only hospice for children and young people with life-limiting conditions in the East Midlands.

The committed fundraisers regularly hold a number of events throughout the year including a Christmas jumper day and toy collection for the Salvation Army. Funds have also been raised for Crohn’s & Colitis UK, Poppy appeal and the RNLI.

John added:

“An important expression of our Christian service at CCT is to show love and kindness to everyone. We can serve others in many ways, and we should ensure that we use every opportunity that we can.

“One of the most valuable ways to serve others is to show them that we care. Giving our time and encouragement to someone will often be more valuable than even the most generous gift.

“We are hugely proud of our efforts and truly hope the money we worked hard to raise will help make a difference to many people’s lives.”

CCT has conference centres at The Hayes in Derbyshire, High Leigh in Hertfordshire and Belsey Bridge on the Norfolk Suffolk border. Their venues host a full range of events, including conferences for 400 delegates, small business meetings, church weekends away, corporate away days or evening functions.
