Citizens Advice to relocate following deal by Innes England

The Citizens Advice Nottingham & District has relocated from Carrington Street to 16-18 Maid Marian Way, following a deal and fitout overseen by Innes England.

The charity, which offers free, confidential advice and information to assist people with debt, benefits, housing, consumer and other problems, opened at its new location on 22 July. The move comes after its previous offices were sold for redevelopment.

Trish Eaton, Chief Officer of Citizens Advice Nottingham & District, commented:

’In today’s complex world, demand for advice has never been higher.  We needed more space and a more accessible environment to help the increasing number of people seeking advice.  Our new walk-in environment is open and welcoming, with an assisted self-help area allowing people to access online help, ten fully accessible confidential interview rooms and a large open-plan office for our team of advice volunteers and staff. 

‘In our new office space, we will continue to provide the crucial advice and advocacy service needed by local people and to develop our service to meet the changing demands of the world we operate in.’      

Craig Straw, Director at Innes England, said

‘The Citizens Advice requirements were challenging as they needed city centre offices with public access in a market with very limited supply. The Maid Marian premises were last used by a college to provide on the job training in hairdressing but with some internal refurbishment and a change of use they were identified as being potentially suitable.

‘We were able to agree a deal before the property was formally marketed and the whole process was completed within a very tight timescale.’

Mike Thorne, Head of Building Consultancy at Innes England, designed, specified and project managed the fit-out. He said:

‘There was a fixed deadline and a relatively short programme from receiving the brief to project completion.   

‘We had to identify the key deliverables and risks early in the process and work closely with the charity throughout. We are delighted with the outcome having managed the project to ensure a high-quality fit-out was achieved, on time and within a challenging budget.

‘We worked with Axis Consulting Engineers on the refurbishment and the fit-out all went to plan and was completed before the deadline, allowing Citizens Advice adequate time to move and get settled in.

‘Bob Woollard from the Planning & Design Group secured a change of use as the property and it has now been transformed from an open plan hairdressing school to offices and confidential interview rooms suitable for the charity.’
