Manager at Derbyshire house builder set to compete in The Great North Run on behalf of Rainbows Children's Hospice!

Peveril Homes’ Land and Technical Manager, Tom Broster, is set to compete in this year’s Great North Run in memory of his nephew Preston and niece Charlotte as he looks to raise vital funds for East Midlands-based children’s charity, Rainbows Hospice.

The Great North Run is an annual half marathon that takes in a 13.1 mile route from Newcastle city centre to the coast in South Shields. This year’s event will take place on the 8th September, with thousands of participants expected to take part - from professional athletes to novice runners.

Tom has already raised just over £1,400 in sponsorship and the final amount raised will go directly to children’s charity Rainbows Hospice, which sits very close to his and his family's heart for a very special reason, as he goes on to explain.

“My niece and nephew were both in the care of the specialist team at Rainbows before they died - bringing comfort and joy to their tragically short lives,”

“Rainbows not only brightens the lives of sick children, but also provides support to the parents and families in very difficult times. I want to repay Rainbows for the support they provided to my family during a very tough time and I hope that the money raised from taking part in the Great North Run supports the future efforts of Rainbows so that they can continue to provide the brilliant love and care that children and their families sometimes need,”

Tom is busy training for the event in a month’s time. His determination has not wavered, mainly because he has one thing on his mind to help get him through what he expects to be a huge test physically.

“At the beginning of my training, I hadn’t run a distance longer than 10 kilometeres, and I’m not part of a running club - so training has been tough. I’m powering through the pain though because I know it’s all for a great cause and the donations from my friends and family will make a real difference to others. The support I’ve received from everyone has been phenomenal and I know they will be supporting me over the finish line.”

Tom’s fundraising efforts have received fantastic support not only from his friends and family but also the team at his employer, Peveril Homes.

“The dedication that Tom has put into his training is admirable and it’s fantastic to see it paying off through generous donations from those around him,” says Director of Sales and Marketing, Alison Kendall.

“As a housebuilder with strong family values, we’re proud of Tom’s efforts and we’re delighted to see that he has chosen Rainbows as his charity of choice. Everyone at Peveril Homes wishes Tom all the best for the run in September and I’m sure most of our team will either be there in person or tuning on the TV to cheer him on on the day.”

Tom’s fundraising page is still open for further donations. Please visit https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/tombroster?utm_campaign=eua-email-sponsorshiprequest&utm_content=shorturl&utm_medium=emails-from-eua&utm_source=email to make a donation.
