COMMUNITY CENTRE RECEIVES £1,000 DONATION FROM COVENTRY HOUSEBUILDER

A community centre in Coventry has welcomed a £1,000 donation from Barratt and David Wilson Homes as it continued to provide healthy and safe activities for children in the local area.

The donation to Canley Community Centre is part of the housebuilder’s Community Fund scheme and will be put towards valuable opportunities for children under the age of 16.

Barratt and David Wilson Homes’ Community Fund scheme launched earlier this year and involves donating up to £1,000 a month to charities and organisations in the area.

Tom Russell, Assistant Site Manager at Barratt Homes’ nearby Deram Parke development, visited the community centre to present the cheque to Darren Standbridge and Anna-Marie Corbett, Trustee and Centre Manager at the facility.

Tom Hickinbottom, Trustee at Canley Community Centre, said:

“We are very grateful for the donation towards the work of the centre. The funds will enable us to continue providing important local services such as youth and children’s groups and community facilities in an area of little interaction for young people.

“Providing safe and healthy activities for local children, promoting community cohesion through community events and enabling local groups to meet together are just some of the ways in which we aim to raise health, ambitions and safety across our community.”

Canley Community Centre was re-launched in 2015 with the aim of being a valued resource for the people of Canley and the wider community.

The charity works closely with children and their families to provide both in-house sessions and days out as a group.

Rob Staniforth, Assistant Site Manager at Deram Parke, who nominated the charity, said:

“As we’re building close to Canley, our site team live and work in the area and we wanted to use the Community Fund scheme to help an organisation that provided opportunities and support to a large number of local people.

“Canley Community Centre fit the bill perfectly which is why I took the opportunity to fulfil this wish.”

Chris Southgate, Managing Director at Barratt and David Wilson Homes North Midlands, said:

“Canley Community Centre is such an important facility for many children in Coventry and we’re thrilled to support a great cause with our Community Fund scheme.

“As the country’s largest housebuilder we are committed to creating a positive legacy. We want to lead the industry not just in the quality of the homes and developments we build, but also in our work with charities and good causes throughout the UK.”
