Local charity receives £2,000 and joins homebuilder on site at new development in Newark

As part of its Community Fund scheme, leading developer Barratt and David Wilson Homes North Midlands has donated £2,000 to a local children’s charity and invited them for a tour of its upcoming development in Newark.

Representatives from the Children’s Bereavement Centre, Kate Baxter and Rachel Wilson, joined the homebuilder’s Managing Director Chris Southgate and Quantity Surveyor Bex Chatfield to receive a cheque at the Fernwood Village site.

The donation comes as part of Barratt and David Wilson Homes’ Community Fund scheme, where the housebuilder donates up to £1,000 a month to charities and organisations in the area.

A further £1,000 was donated by Barratt Developments PLC as a token to celebrate the success of Senior Buyer Cheryl Arnold’s fundraising for the charity at her annual garden party, at which she raised £1,542.40 earlier this year.

Cheryl has donated the proceeds of her garden party to the charity for the previous two years, with money raised through refreshments, a cake stall, a raffle, squares and a ‘guess the weight of the planter’ competition.

Kate Baxter, Director at the Children’s Bereavement Centre, said:

“We are delighted to be selected as a recipient from the Barratt and David Wilson Homes Community Fund and to then receive a further donation through their match funding policy is just the icing on the cake.

“As a local charity providing essential support to children and families within the local community it’s very fitting that we are being supported by an organisation that builds communities.

“This donation will provide vital funds, ensuring we can continue to be there to support local children and their families when they need us most. A heartfelt thank you to everyone involved.”

Based in Newark, the Children’s Bereavement Centre is run by a committed team of friendly, supportive and professional people who are qualified to help with the grieving process brought on by the death or terminal illness diagnosis of someone close.

Supporting more than 780 children last year, the Centre is open to those aged 3 to 18 and offers a welcoming and safe environment for them and their families to receive the help and guidance they need.

Chris Southgate, Managing Director at Barratt and David Wilson Homes North Midlands, said:

“We wanted to go the extra mile with this donation and welcomed Kate and Rachel to join us in celebrating the work starting at our Fernwood Village development, which will soon be providing new homes for the Newark community.

“The Children’s Bereavement Centre does an excellent job in supporting local children through difficult times and it was our pleasure to provide our support.”
