Steel fabricator set to keep Rollin

A Nottinghamshire steel fabrication firm that is on the cusp of its 50th anniversary is set for a new lease of life by gearing up for growth – which could create up to eight new jobs - after bringing in a manufacturing expert to help to explore new markets.

New Ollerton-based Rollin Fabrications – which has been manufacturing secondary steelworks on construction projects since 1971 and has laterally become something of a specialist in steel staircases and the frames for shop signage on retail parks – has its sights set on new product ranges after working closely with an award-winning Nottinghamshire businesswoman.

TJ Duncan-Moir – who was named in the top 20 leading figures in the UK manufacturing industry just two years ago – has already identified a raft of initiatives that the company can introduce to broaden the scope of its manufacturing which, in turn, should lead to more jobs being created.

The company – which currently has a 16-strong workforce and a factory on the Boughton Industrial Estate – also produces balustrades, handrails, balconies, gates, railings, walkways, platforms, access ladders, security grilles and mezzanine floors.

It has always prided itself on being able to fabricate steel for any use and was the company that built the starting grid gantry at Silverstone motor racing circuit.

Mrs Duncan-Moir is busy working with Managing Director Tony Heathcote to put growth plans in place that will secure the future of the business and create new jobs by looking at new areas, such as manufacturing for sectors such as cycling and the equestrian industry.

“Rollin Fabrications has been a very successful business that has been trading since 1971, working for construction companies by making bespoke steel structures to order,” said TJ.

“It has stayed true to what it is good at, but Tony was very keen to bring in someone who could offer a fresh perspective and, already, we have identified areas that Rollin Fabrications can diversify into and ways in which it can refine processes to support its new business development.”

Rollin Fabrications owner Tony Heathcote is delighted that TJ is working with the company and is excited at all the ideas and plans that have come from bringing a new perspective to the business.

“In the short time TJ has been with us, she has been a breath of fresh air for Rollin Fabrications because she has been able to look at the business from a completely different angle. It’s opening all our eyes to all the new opportunities that are out there,” said Tony.

“Bringing someone of TJ’s calibre in has been a big step for this business, but it’s already paying dividends because I can see the way forward, and it means I can finally start thinking about taking a well-deserved retirement.”

TJ added: “Working with Rollin Fabrications is an exciting opportunity for me, and it’s made me realise just how much knowledge and experience I have in running a successful business – which I can apply moving forward.

“I’ve also built up a lot of industry contacts from my time in the steel industry, and everyone I’ve spoken to sees the same potential in Rollin Fabrications. Now it’s a case of starting to put plans into action.”
