Nottingham Smiths News distribution centre wins gold at Health and Safety Awards

The team at the Nottingham distribution centre of magazine and newspaper wholesaler, Smiths News, is celebrating after being awarded an industry leading gold standard award for health and safety by the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) for a third year.

Presented at an awards ceremony held at the Hilton Birmingham Metropole, the distribution centre retained its Gold RoSPA Health and Safety Award in recognition of its efforts towards improving health and safety standards in the workplace through education and new technologies.

Commenting on the centre’s success, Jonathan Bunting, CEO for Smiths News, said:

“A RoSPA Award is a well-recognised accolade that highlights a company’s efforts towards promoting workplace safety. Health and safety is something we take very seriously and the fact that the Smiths News Nottingham team has managed to retain the Gold Award for a third consecutive year is a testament to that.

“I’m incredibly proud of the team’s hard work and ongoing commitment to ensuring they promote the highest levels of safety and employee care.”

Based on Tissington Close in Beeston, the Nottingham Smiths News depot distributes newspapers and magazines to retailers across the region.

Adam Geoghegan, area and site manager at the Nottingham distribution centre, added:

“Over the years, we’ve been hard at work ensuring our distribution centre operates at the highest safety levels for all our colleagues and to be recognised for our efforts by such a prestigious body as RoSPA for another year is fantastic.

“In the coming months we look forward to continuing our commitment to safe workplace practices and ensuring all our colleagues stay safe as they carry out their day-to-day duties.”
