Work starts on new home for Radford Care Group

A Nottingham-based charity for older people will be moving to a new base next year after work started on site for its state-of-the-art friendship and care centre.

The new facility is being built on the charity’s former site on Prospect Street and will allow the group to better support its attendees and allow for more capacity.

The project has been supported by Gleeds and CPMG, who have worked together on the design and facilitation of the building to meet the charity’s budget.

The centre - which will double the charity’s support capacity – is being built by O’Keeffe Building Services, which has brought in architects ACS Design to support the next process.

Jill Davies, CEO of Radford Care Group said

“We’re over the moon to have work beginning on the new centre. There is an ever-growing need for this kind of support for older members of our communities, and this will provide a safe and supportive environment to socialise, connect with one-another and receive any extra care they may need.

“We wouldn’t be where we are today without the help of Gleeds and CPMG. When we made the decision earlier this year to re-visualise our dream build in order to progress under a tighter budget, they were able to make the necessary adjustments to our original plans to bring the project within our funds raised."

The group provides a bespoke friendship group Monday to Friday for more than 85 older people in the city, putting on activities and outings and providing a place for them to visit where they can eat, relax and make friends.

Its day-time provision also gives essential respite to carers, as well as supporting them through quarterly generic meetings and a wider programme supporting carers of loved ones who have a diagnosis of dementia.

Jill Davies said:

“The Radford Methodist Church has kindly agreed to rent their space to us while the new centre is being built, which has meant that we are still able to continue all our existing services with the same commitment and dedication.

“We are being supported by various trusts, foundations, businesses and individuals as we look to raise the money that will help us get the new building to completion, and we hope to be ready to open our doors to a new kind of service in Spring 2020.”
